How do I use Image Capture to scan?

• Do the following:

  1. Open Image Capture.
  2. Select your product from the DEVICES or SHARED list, if necessary.
     

     Note: You may need to hover the cursor over the DEVICES or SHARED list, click Show, and then select your product. If you see the Show Details button, click it. If you are scanning an item on the scanner glass, your product begins a preview scan.

  3. Select the Scan Mode setting indicating where you placed your original (if available). Select any other scan settings as necessary.
     

     Note: Some settings shown above may not be available for your product.

  4. Select the folder where you want to save your scanned file in the Scan To pop-up menu.
  5. Click Scan.

     Your original is scanned and the scanned file is saved in the folder you selected.

Apple notifies all companies that have developed software and apps on mac os updates in advance of rolling out the update.

HP hasn't finished the update to include the scanner.  This is an HP problem to solve.

You don't have to download the software extensions.

HP posted a new version of their HP Quick Start SW that is supposed to resolve this issue:

This does not work, I have two HP printers 8710 and a Laser Jet and they are both Bricked because Apple and HP can't "F"ing communicate and make the drivers available. Ironically our new Epson seems to work fine, but it for my wife's work and its only home for a few weeks.  Scanner functions do not worth either!

Sorry it didn't work on your printers. It worked fine on my ENVY.

I tried that, but when you click "open scanner" from the selected printer you get the message "no camera or scanner selected."

That's strange. I have an ENVY Photo 7800 series and it worked perfectly and that was the same error message I was getting. The only other thing I might have done that you didn't is I removed and re-installed the printer on my MAC.

Upon further exploration, I found the scanner app within Image Capture had the same functionality as the original app for the printers that HP never updated. I've now deleted the question marks in the dock where the original apps were and have kept image capture.

Amazing, the HP Smart App didn't work on 10/13 when the HP tech had me install it on my laptop, as a workaround I started using the notes app on my phone to scan.  However; today I tried the HP Smart App again and it worked.  Yay!
