Hello
I have reinstalled the scan software for M477 on a new Windows 11 machine, however, I am missing the OCR option now. HP Smart app is useless, and the software (HP Scan) which is installed as part of the "Full Solution" for Win10 does not have an option "Save as Editable Text (OCR)" which I am sure I had before.

There is also a 3rd party software (Readiris) available, but it does not work properly either and I would prefer to use HP Scan. How can I get it to create OCR scans?
thanks

Hi,
Download and install the HP Universal Scan Driver to enable OCR capabilities, you may download it from below link directly:
Following the installation use HP Scan and OCR capabilities will be enabled:

Thanks, but I've tried that software already, it doesn't work, it won't find the printer even when it is turned on and online (and available in the old HP Scan).
Are you sure that it supports M477? I suspect that it probably does not support M477, only M478-M479 printers. Anyway, how can I get OCR scans with M477? or how do I get this new Universal Scan software to recognise my printer? I've already tried auto-detection, detection via IP, and also connecting directly with cable, nothing seems to work.

Thanks for the details @ktotam.
I would also recommend checking the existing HP Scan software following the Universal Scan Driver software installation (even without configuring a device), to see if Editable Text option might be added to the existing HP Scan software following the installation.
Other than that, you may also install and USE IRIS OCR, it should get a single user license and detect an M477fdw printer with the full feature software installed:

no, unfortunately it did not get added to the existing HP Scan if I install the universal driver without configuring a device. Although I am sure I did have this option before on another machine, with the same printer.
Readiris has its own issues making it impossible for me to use as well, but I guess this is not the place to solve problems with third-party software. I would really like to get HP software working properly, especially since I know it used to work before.
I am really stuck here which is why I started this thread.
