I am attempting to print a Legal size paper from the only tray. I have been printed Letter size no problem, but when i load the bottom tray with 8.5 x 14(Legal) & adjust the trays tabs correctly... the tray does not close. Then when i close it as much as i can, the printer states it is offline or tray is empty.

Specifications > Paper Handling

"Plain Paper" Legal size is supported in this printer

60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lb bond)

If you have not done so, try / consider:

There is a "front" extender in the tray to support loading legal paper into the tray.

User Guide

See the illustrations Chapter 2 - Pages 23-26

The tray should close, but it may not close completely due to the tray extension.

Beware the Notes on Page 25:

  1. "Do not over fill"
  2. Never, ever load paper while the printer is printing

No joy?

The following might be relevant:

  • After the tray is loaded according to the instructions,
  • Open the tray (part way - no need to remove it),
  • Leave it open for a few seconds (3 or so),
  • Close the tray -- look at the printer panel for a message to select size and type of paper.
