I returned another Office Jet last week for this same issue. Went to use my mom's office jet and her's was doing the same thing. I was just able to scan using the document feeder this morning. Now it acts like it's scanning but then doesn't feed and then shows a blank page on the screen.
I've rebooted both computer and printer. Unplugged printer from wall. Is ther some new update that is causing the scanner not to feed?

I spoke with tech support this morning to fix my issue. Somehow when the scan panel was open the "glass scan" was chosen instead of "feeder scan". So that corrected my issue. Not sure how it was changed within minutes of using it for a previous scan. But it might help someone else.

There are not recent updates to either the printer software or firmware.
Some of the more common underlying causes for this issue might include (and may not be limited to):
- Specifications provide information on paper sizes and in which trays (or ADF) the paper is supported. The document also includes information on paper weight limitations. If the paper is not appropriate for use in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), then the paper may not feed properly.
- The ADF may be dirty, the rollers inside the printer may be dirty, and / or the printer is in need of maintenance.
Solutions, in the order to be completed: Paper Jam Error
More Feed Issues ...
- The paper may be too damp (this is not usually something you can discern by feeling the paper with your hand).
- The paper might be wrinkled, creased, or otherwise imperfect enough to disrupt the feed.
- The paper might even be too dry (again, not likely something you can "feel", though in extreme cases it is might be possible discern that the paper is "not right").
Paper that is too damp or too dry might have been stored incorrectly OR perhaps just stored in a different environment than the one where the printer is located. If you have reason to believe it would be helpful, store the paper near the printer for a day or so and then try again.
NOTE: Paper that "too dry / too damp" may also be an issue for paper that has trouble feeding from the printer tray when printing.
More information on cleaning the ADF
Unless it is coated with sticky residue, the glass bar used for ADF scanning does not prevent the paper from feeding. If you opt to clean the printer, consider cleaning the ADF glass bar, too. (Good maintenance.)
Get a flashlight (torch in the UK) and shine the light at an angle across the glass..
Clean, clean, clean and use a tiny brush to sweep out the sides.
