I am able to print from my computer wirelessly, but when I went to scan something, it says "No Computer Found".  I have tried installing drivers, but not sure if I did that correctly.  It shows up as an "alias" file.  I'm about to say screw it and return the printer.

As I understand you get the message - "No computer found" while attempting to scan to computer,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you install the latest drivers from HP?

So, as recommended, I downloaded a driver from this site.  Apparently, you did not read myoriginal  post where I stated that I installed the driver.  Yes, I restarted both the computer and the printer. I guess I will just take the printer back.  This should all  be included in the original installation.  It should not be this difficult.  I have never had this kind of problem installing a printer before.

FURTHERMORE, I'm very irritated that I cannot talk to someone.  This is not good customer service.

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I had gone through your first post and considering you could have used a CD sent along with the printer, I suggested using the HP website as it's much easier to deal with, however since you are having issues as such with the website, you may want to try the below steps:

  1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.

  2. Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  3. Check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication and to make sure the correct driver is used. Click the name of your printer, then click the minus sign  to delete the printer. Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, make sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable, or that it is on the same wired or wireless network as your Mac. See the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, then continue to the next step.

  4. Click the Use or Print Using menu, then select the name of your printer.

       NOTE:

Selecting a Generic driver option from the Use menu can result in limited printer functionality.

Select the name of your printer in the Use menu
  5. Click Add to add the printer to the list.

  6. Close the System Preferences window.

  7. Try to print, scan, or fax, depending on your printer functionality.

  • If you can print, scan, or fax, you installed the driver and can now use your printer.

  • If you cannot print, scan, or fax, see the Frequently asked questions on scanning issues and methods, driver support information, and to troubleshoot printer connection issues.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it as suggested.  Will print, but not scan.  Scanner shows "No Computer Found" error.

Instructions on scanner read:
MacOSX:  Open HP Utility. Under "Scan Settings", click "Scan to Computer", and esndure that "Enable to Scan to Computer" is selected.

When I open the HP Utility, I see this:

When I click the "plus" sign to add a device, it cannot find any device and just keeps searching forever until I shut it down after 15-20 minutes.

The reason I did not use the CD is because there was only one included, and it was for Windows.  There was no CD for Mac OS.

While I appreciate your attention, if you had read my earlier posts, there are no "scan settings" because the device does not show up in the HP Utility.  I have installed the driver, but I'm not sure if it's the right one, because there doesn't seem to be one available for Mac OS 10.7.5, so I installed the driver for 10.8, hoping that would work.  Apparently, it will not.  I will be returning this printer this weekend.  Thanks for your effort.
