My OfficeJet Pro 6970 has not had a problem with scanning to PC for two years until recently. Now it will scan only to USB, not to PC. I would appreciate a resolution to this.

Thank you.

Hi @sallyjean_1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning issue.

Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues.

If the issue still persists, try re-installing the printer driver -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here for Windows 10 (64-bit).

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

asmita6658, thank you so much for the informed reply to my post. I sincerely appreciate it.

Actually, I thought of uninstall/re-install last week but I wanted to download the software/drivers before uninstalling from my PC. But I ran into two issues. 1. When I went to the page with the drivers, the driver seems generic, that is, my printer model isn’t referenced. 2. When I click on the “Get app” button, I’m taken to a Microsoft webpage where I’m expected to log in. Why do I need to acquire an HP product from MS?

I suppose I’m just exacerbating my own issue, but it’s a philosophical issue for me. I bought an HP printer, why do I need Microsoft in my pinter life?

Thank you again. Stay safe!!

Best regards.

Hello, Asmita, I'm back. Following your suggestion from earlier today, I tried to uninstall the printer program. I get the error shown in the screenshot below. Can you kindly help get past the error?

Thank you for all your help.

Asmita, I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions, but I want to get this right.

The instructions indicate this warning, "if you have an HP Computer, follow the steps within the HP PC Solution section and do not follow any further steps within this section".

My PC is an HP laptop so I went to the HP PC solution section. So the first step is to run the following command:

·         takeown /f %windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository /r /d y

·         icacls "%windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository" /grant %username%:(OI)(CI)F /T

·         takeown /f %windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository /A /r /d y

So, which one of the three above  bulleted commands is the correct one? I don't think the three is one command since each is a bullet point.

Thank you.

Asmita, I'm back...again. 🙂

After I sent you the question regarding running the command, I decided to try entering the command one line at a time. Well, it worked when I entered all three lines as one command--thank you for the guidance.

So I followed the rest of the steps until I tried to delete the HP folder and I got the error message below.

So to try to gain administrator privilege, I went to Start, right-click on my account name, click Change account settings and it says MyName, Local Account, Administrator. But even though it says I am administrator, I'm unable to delete the folder.

Thank you for your patience in helping me get this resolved.
