Hello,
The problem is not a software issue. Kindly follow these steps:
1. Open the left side of the printer
2. Locate the cables that goes unto the logic board of the printer
3. resit the cables and try using the printer
these should solve the problem.
thank you

Hello,
Kindly look for a hp technical engineer to work on it for you.
But, if you can do these
1. Open the left side of the printer
2. Locate the cables on the logic board of the printer
3. Resit the all the cables then put the printer on
I think these should solved the problem.
Thank you.

This issue was resolved by taking the printer back to the place of purchase and exchanging it for a new one. I find it hard to believe that the cables worked themselves loose in the two weeks it was owned and then came loose at the precise time the firmware upgrade was completed. Anyway, the issue was resolved by replacing the printer. I didn't get any feedback for solutions until a month after I had done so.

Hello CribDesigner,
I am a hp technical engineer and have been faced with such issues all the time.
We had the same error message.
When the cover of the logic board was removed, I realised that the cable which comes from adf to the logic board
was not connected well.
After resitting it and putting on, the error was nowhere to be found.
Thank you.

I have an Officejet Pro 8625, which I have had less thn a year.
I have this same problem, and I have NEVER used the ADF on this printer.
It simply started giving me the paper jam/ADF error when I turned it on today.
I have never fed any paper in the ADF (and of course i looked, and nothing jammed).
It will not let me use any menu item. When I hit "ok" on panel, the motor on the ADF spins for a half second then stops, and the error pops up again. I cannot get rid of it.
How do I check the cables?

Hello,
1. Remove the left side cover when facing the printer.
There are 2 screws at the back and 1 screw at front when open to locate the cartridges.
2. Locate the cables on the logic board of the printer with a black color
3. carefully resit the all the cables then put the printer on before replacing the cover
I think these should solved the problem.
Thank you.

Hi all,
John's suggestion fixed the error on my OJ 8620, too.
I was able to do this without removing the left cover.
Just open the catridge door, have a pocket lamp and check all visible cables by pressing them firmly into the connectors.
Thanks John!
Cheers,
Markus

John and Markus - Kudos
I had all of the same problems without putting even one piece of paper through the ADF. It was brand new. I had been able to set time and then printed test page (I forget in what order). That was it until your solutions. Talked to tech and did all the normal checks and cleanings. The answer was in the forum! You guys are great!Did not take side off, just went through cartridge door, pushed on some wires, closed it up and turned it on and SUCCESS! Thank you.
