OfficeJet 4650
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have an OfficeJet 4655 and am using "HP Easy Scan" on a MacBook Pro. I love the IRIS text recognition; it beats Acrobat's OCR by a mile! When I first set the scanner up, there was a SETTING OPTION to "Auto Straighten" that worked wonders. However, it doesn't seem to be auto straightening anymore.

1.) How do I get auto straightening to work? I can manually straighten; but auto straightening is more convenient, and frankly, more accurate.

2.) The only way I know to engage text recognition / auto-straightening is not intuitive:

       a.) I select "Send" / "Folder"

       b.) I select "Fomat", "PDF/Searchable"

Is there a better way to do this?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand you need help in straightening the photos before printing it,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you attempt resetting the application you've been using all this while?

Have you tried a different application that could straighten the photos automatically?

I did some research and the straightening of photos is not an HP feature but a part of the MacOS and hence, you might want to contact Apple support for details and further support regarding straightening, that said, I have a few steps for you as I don't want you to go back empty handed 😉

To edit a photo without changing it everywhere, first duplicate the photo and then edit the duplicate.

  1. Double-click the photo, then click the Edit button  in the toolbar.

  2. Click the Crop button .

Tip: To quickly see the crop and straighten tools while editing, press C. Press C again when done making changes.

  3. Do any of the following:

    • Crop or straighten the photo automatically: Click Auto.

    • Crop manually: Drag the selection rectangle to enclose the area you want to keep in the photo.

    • Crop to specific dimensions: Click Aspect, then choose the aspect ratio you want.

For example, for a square photo in a photo book, choose Square. For printing the photo, choose one of the preset print ratios, such as 10 x 8. To size a photo for use in a high-definition video, choose 16 x 9. Or choose Custom to enter a custom format for a photo.

    • Flip the image: Click Flip to flip the image horizontally. Option-click to flip the image vertically.

    • Straighten the image manually: Drag the tilt wheel to adjust the angle of the photo.

    • Remove the current cropping or straightening: Click Reset.

  4. When finished making changes, do one of the following:

    • Save your changes: Click Done, press C, or click the Crop button  again.

    • Stop cropping without saving your changes: Press Escape (Esc).
