Thanks for clarifying @Tombar1!

From the Control Panel please click on Uninstall a  Program.

Type 6960 into the search bar and remove any installed Basic Device Software, either Officejet 6960 or Officejet Pro 6960.

Next, right click the Start button and type %temp%

and then press OK.

Delete any folder which starts with 7z within that folder (e.g. 7z1234s), those are temporary HP installation folders.

From the Control Panel select Network and internet, then open the Network and Sharing Center.

Click Change advanced sharing settings within the left pane, under the Provate profile uncheck the box next to 'Turn on automatic sertup of network connected devices'.

Now reinstall the printer software below and check for any difference:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/oj6960/OJ6960_Full_WebPack_40.11.1150.exe

Please let me know the results,

Shlomi

Hi ShlomiL,

I've done that, with slight adjustments -

step 1, go to Prgrams and Features, then type 6690 and uninstalled Basic software, Help, and Program Improvement scheme for both printers.

Step 2; chose Run and typed in %temp% and deleted about 17 folders starting 7z.

Step 3, went straight to Nework and Sharing Center and Change advance sharing and unchecked the box described.

Step 4 - downloaded and ran the file - much faster installation than before - however, it then got stuck forever on trying to install on the network and eventually said it couldn't do it. Tried again and it completed (I don't need to check that box again?)

Then ran Print and Scan Doctor which finds my old 6600 (that I don't have any more - how do I get rid of it?), Pro 6969 and Pro 6960 PCL-3 (installed yesterday - remove this?). Chose Pro 6969 and ran Print check, then ran Test page and nothing happened and it froze and I had to use Task Manager to close it - this has happened twice now. Ran Scan check and got the same Driver Check message as yesterday. Unplugged/plugged in the printer and restarted the computer. Ran Print and Scan Doctor again and found a new mystery Officejet 6960 (not Pro) as a fourth option and on the same IP address as the Pro one! Chose Pro and ran Scan test and it worked. Ran print test again (new mystery Officejet 6960 had now disappeared!) and still couldn't print the Test page (froze the programme again), but it does print a real page!!

Think that might be as good as I can hope for. Any idea how to get 6600 out of the system? - it isn't in Devices and Printers. However, in D and P, I have icons for Fax-Officejet Pro 6960, Officejet Pro 6960 (Network) and Officejet Pro 6960 PCL-3 - should I have all of these? Also, in D and P, for the Officejet Pro 6960, it says setup incomplete because of metered connection (see picture) - do I ignore this or how do I sort it out?

Thanks for the help

Print test page is working from everywhere now, even Print and Scan Doctor . Still have this not fully installed message in Devices and printers - ignore it?

Hi,

The device configuration does not complete as your operating system is set to a metered connection.

To change that click the Start menu and then the Gear icon at the left.

Click Network & Internet and select your active connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi from the left pane.

Click your network name or Ethernet and then Turn off Metered connection, the device configuration should now complete.

Regarding the old 6600 printer, expend your System Tray by clicking the up arrow and look for any Scan to Computer icon (hover the icons to find its name).

If there is any such double click it and check if that belongs to the 6600 printer, if so disable it and uncheck the bottom box to start it with Windows.

Next, right-click the start icon and select Device Manager.

From the top View menu check to Show hidden devices.

Look for the 6600 printer within the WSD, Software Devices, Printers, Print Queues or Other Devices categories, if the 6600 is listed under any of these categories uninstall it.

Please let me know,

Shlomi

Hi ShlomiL,

I changed the metered setting and now it reads OK in Devices and Printers, so gone back to my metered connection and it's still OK. Weird it doesn't work over the metered connection, especially since it took no time at all to change the message and it doesn't give a warning during installation.

I don't have the Scan to Computer icon any more after installing the Pro 6969 software.

In Device Manager, I don't have any 6600 under any of these categories in Show hidden Devices, though I do have 2 entries for Pro 6960 under Software devices - is this normal? I do have one HP item under Other Devices, but this is almost certainly my HP Laserjet 1010

Should I uninstall PCL-3?

Hi,

The 6960 should appear under  Software Devices once reinstalled, please don't remove it as it will affect the printer functionality.

Other than the 6600 appears under the HP Print and Scan doctor, do you still experience issues scanning to the computer with the 6960 printer?

Please clarify what exact issues are remaining or resolved.

Shlomi

Hi,

Apart from Print and Scan Doctor believing I still have a 6600, the only questions I still have are

1, why I have the Pro 6969 listed twice in Software devices instead of once?

2 Do I need Pro 6969 PCL-3 or should I uninstall it? It’s something I installed as an option from the website while trying to make sure everything was up to date before you told me there was both a 6960 and a Pro 6960, which I hadn’t realised.

I have no problems with scanning to computer - the original question was about why I had an icon with Scan to Computer that didn’t work. I don’t have this now and it was presumably left over from the Officejet 6960 (non- Pro) software that I must have installed at some point by mistake.

Again, thanks for all the effort!

You are much welcome.

Regarding the software devices, it is expected to see the printer listed twice under Software Devices, for several software-related features.

For the PCL-3 printer, I would assume it is another instance of a USB connection to the printer?

If you right-click the PCL-3 instance and select Printer Properties, what exact port is listed within the Ports tab?

For the 6600 printer, please open Notepad and click on File > Print.

May you see any 6600 instance there? if so please delete it by right-clicking it from within the Print dialog, then reboot the computer.

Next right click the Start menu and select Run, paste the following and press OK:

printui.exe /s

Within the shown window open the Drivers tab, if there is any listed 6600 printer there, remove its driver and its driver package.

Hope that helps,

Shlomi

Hi Shlomi,

(1) PCL-3 doesn't have a Ports tab:

Capture1.JPGCapture.JPG

Think it may be a driver

HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 PCL-3 - Driver Download

Updating your drivers with Driver Alert can help your computer in a number of ways.
From adding new functionality and improving performance, to fixing a major bug.

*Vendor:HP
*Product:HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 PCL-3
*Hardware Class:printer

(2) Notebook/File/Print - no 6600

(3) Used Run as described - drivers tab has  no 6600 - I checked this previously when we uninstalled all the 6960 ones.

Think I'll leave it as it is now. Thanks very much

Just out of interest: I found the ports under Printer Properties, not Properties where I was looking:
