HP PageWide Pro 477dw Multifunction Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I own an HP Pagewide PRO MFP 477 DW printer and scanner.  I am using an iMac Pro running macOS Monterey version 12.3.1.   Until recently I could easily scan double sided pages and multiple page documents with no problem.  However, after updating the latest printer software (Using HP Easy Start), any double sided document seems to go through the process of scanning both sides, but the second page always comes out blank.   Also, if I scan a multi-page document, only the first page shows, and all subsequent pages scan as if they were completely blank.  The HP Utility App is version 5.51.0(2117), i.e. the latest version, and the HP Easy Scan App is also the latest version (Ver 1.11.0 (210909).

 

I have tried deleting all the software and installing multiple times, taking care to install for the right printer, and for the correct OS system, and of course re-starting both printer and Mac.

 

So, everything on my Mac is completely up-to-date, but I just cannot find a way to see anything other than blank pages after the first page of a scan

This is definitely not the perfect solution, but I found the following work-around.   

 

Thank God that my Mac Time Machine was working. 

 

I deleted version 1.11.0 (210909) of HP Easy Scan app, and used time machine to restore version 1.9.3 (002).  The old version immediately worked as it should, properly scanning both sides of each page.

 

Frankly I am very put off by HP's lack of customer support and the poor quality of its software (just read the complaints in the user forum).  When I come to get my next printer, it is unlikely to be an HP model, neither for personal use, nor corporate use.  If anyone has tried the online help, you will realise how hopeless it is.   As for Warren Buffett investing in 121 million shares of HP,  I doubt very much that he is buying into a business which will grow due to customer satisfaction.
