Hi @JK275,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet multifunction printer is not showing the PDF file type option when scanning, here are several steps you can take to address this issue:

1. Check Scanner Software Settings

  • Open Scanner Software: Launch the HP scanning software or HP Smart app on your computer.
  • Select Scan Settings: Look for the scan settings or preferences within the software.
  • File Type Options: Check if there’s an option to choose the file type or format for the scan. Make sure PDF is selected.

2. Update or Reinstall Printer Software

  • Update Software: Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP software installed. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for your printer model.
  • Reinstall Software: Sometimes reinstalling the HP software can resolve issues with missing features. Uninstall the current software, restart your computer, and then reinstall the latest version.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Firmware updates can sometimes add new features or fix bugs. You can find updates on the HP Support website.

4. Verify Scanner Capability

  • Printer Manual: Refer to the printer’s manual or specifications to ensure that your model supports scanning to PDF. Some older or basic models might have limited file format options.

5. Check Scanner Properties

  • Open Devices and Printers: Go to the Devices and Printers section on your computer.
  • Access Scanner Properties: Right-click on your HP DeskJet printer, select “Properties” or “Scanner Properties.”
  • Configure Settings: Look for options related to scanning and file formats and make sure PDF is available and selected.

6. Test with Different Applications

  • HP Smart App: Try using the HP Smart app if you haven’t already. It’s designed to work with HP printers and might offer different scanning options.
  • Windows Fax and Scan: For Windows users, you can use the built-in Windows Fax and Scan utility to check if it offers PDF scanning options.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
