I would like to use the scanner of this all-in-one printer with Windows Vista but I don't know what software I need.
I was previously running the printer with Windows XP using "HP Image Zone Express" version 1.5.1.29 to control the scanner (this was the original software that was provided with the printer around 2005). However it is not compatible with Vista and will not install.
PhotoSmart Essential 3.5 was suggested on the HP support site but it appears to be for photo sharing not scanning. Any ideas what software I need to download and where I can find it?
When I try and download the latest version of HP Image Zone Express (1.5.3.36) from here:

I get PhotoSmart Essentials 3.5 downloading in its place! (which is useless)

Don't worry Sunshyn I think I may have answered my own question
I've just discovered the 'Auto Correct' function in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. That seems to do the trick!
Thanks for your help anyway...

Welcome to the HP Forums @Uberman!
I'd be happy to help you with the software for your PSC 1410. I understand you were previously using the HP Image Zone Express software on your XP, but you have since upgraded to Vista. Please use the following link to download the full feature software and driver and let m know if it meets your requirements: File name: AIO_CDB_Full_Non-Network_enu_NB.exe
- Source: PSC 1410 driver page.
HP Photo Creations replaced Photosmart Essentials back in 2010. If you would like the HP Photo Creations software, please download it from here: HP Photo Creations.
I hope this helps, let me know. If this resolves your inquiry, please click the Accept as Solution button below. Thanks.

Hi @Uberman,
I can't imagine why the file is corrupt, I have downloaded it and installed it on a local computer I use. Please use the Printer Install Wizard instead and let me know the outcome of your efforts: www.hp.com/go/tools
As for the name of the software in the .exe, you should have a file starting with 7z in your temp folder and in that folder there is a setup application that would allow you to install the software. Let's never mind that for the time being and run the Printer Install Wizard.
Please keep me apprised. Thanks.

Hi Sunshyn2005,
Thanks for the replies. However I think maybe you misunderstand the problem - I already have drivers installed and the printer and scanner are running fine. I can do basic scanning with MsPaint and Windows Photo Gallery but what I am after is some proper scanning software that will allow me to do things such as clean up images ie the Vista equivalent of HP Image Zone Express for XP?

I understand, you want to use scanning software that allows you to perform tasks much like the HP Image Zone Express did. Please take a look at the following post and solution posted by another community member: Re: Windows 7 and HP Image Zone software.
Please let me know if you are able to install the HP Image Zone Express using the suggested method. Thanks.

Hi Sunshyn2005,
There is no 'troubleshoot compatibility' option when I right click on setup.exe! I think that must be for Windows 7 only and as I've already explained I have Vista.
Can you recommend any free scanning programs that will run on Vista?
NB I still don't understand why there is no equivalent program to Image Zone Express for Vista! What software does HP supply with its printers for Vista?

Hi Urberman, hope you had a nice weekend. You can scan with Windows Photo Gallery. Here is a link to show you how: Using Windows Photo Gallery, you can scan, edit, and organize pictures.
As for what software HP supplies, the software that should install when you run the Printer Install Wizard is the Solution Center [HP Printers - HP Solution Center Software Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)].
I hope this helps.

Hi Sunshyn,
You really aren't getting this are you?
I know how to scan with Windows Photo Gallery - I've already stated that in a previous message.
What I want is the ability to sharpen and clean up images after they are scanned. In Image Zone Express there was an 'Auto Fix' option that automatically adjusted the contrast and brightness of scanned images. That is the functionality I am looking for - any ideas what Vista software I could use to do that?
Thanks.
