Photosmart s20 Problems

When I clicked on my s20 icon, the software would try to start and then shut down my PC.  I finally uninstalled my software and then retried several times to reinstall using my S20 CD.  It wouldn't reinstall from the CD.  Why did I have the orginal problem and now why can't I get it to reinstall.  I had used the s20 for several years on this PC and was very happy with the scanning.  Don

Did you get an error message when trying to reinstall it? What does the error message say?

I got message "No scanner is connected or there is a problem connecting with it".  I have unconnected and reconnected the s20 and always got the same message.  I then uninstaled the software and when I try and reinstall from the CD it I never works, no icon and no program.  Any suggestions?  Don

Windows 2000 Pro.  

I now have it operating properly, ended up uninstalling and doing a new total install of s20, a second time.

I have same problem with Windows XP, where S20 scanner used to work but doesn't anymore.  Reinstalling software downloaded from HP site does not help.  I suspect something about Windows Update changed Windows and S20 needs a new driver that HP is not providing.  I also tried installing it on a Windows Vista PC but it doesn't work there either.  HP has no software download for Vista.  This is irresponsible of HP since as some of you said, this scanner cost $500 and we need to consider it a long-term investment.  We need to demand that HP provided software update that works today, at least for Windows XP if not for Vista.  Over the years I've spend thousands of $$ on HP products, but if HP can just drop the ball like this, I would never buy anything else from that company.  --- HP:  Are you listening???

I. too, have the same problem.  This use to work, but now it doesn't.  Like yourself, I suspect that a Windows update caused this software to no longer work.  I'm a little peeved that we are stranded here without any recourse.  Any ideas?

Actually I found my problem, and hopefully others can benefit from this.  I had another USB scanner attached to my computer (an Epson all-in-one printer with scanner).  Once I turned off that device, the S20 software came up without any problems.  Hope that helps.

Thanks, but that still didn't work for me.  I do have an HP printer/scanner/copier/fax (psc 2510 photosmart all-in-one) and tried powering it off, even rebooting the PC with it turned off, but the S20 scanner still is not recognized.  (A year or two ago the S20 worked without interference from the above device.)  There must be some other reason the S20 does not connect, and it is HP's responsibility to come up with a solution.  HP, Wake up!!  Do you monitor your support forums?
