My scan quality is suddenly noticeably terrible. The scans are extremely pixelated/blurry and unusable. I am using Mac OS Ventura. The scanner is clean and I have powered it off and on. This poor quality is presenting in both ADF and manual scans. I have not changed any settings and the printed page I am scanning is perfectly clear. I am scanning at the 300 level but have tried other levels as well and they're even worse.

I was only able to install a firmware update through the HP website. As for drivers, it just tells me to download HPSmart, which I have. After I downloaded and installed the firmware update, I tried scanning again but it's still very pixelated/blurry.

I have this issue as well, starting just a few weeks ago. Interestingly, when I use the HP Smart app on my phone or my husband scans from his PC, the scan is clear. It's just when I use the HP Smart app on my Mac that it's blurry. It looks like if you scanned something small and then tried to magnify it. Like the OP, I also had not changed any of my scanning settings from before. If I scan in color, it's better, but then of course creates a larger file. Best I can tell, the issue is with the HP Smart software for the Mac, not with the scanner itself, as then problem exists only when doing it from the Mac HP Smart app. In generally, it seems like the HP Smart app doesn't play well with my Mac. I'm about ready to replace this printer/scanner with another brand that will work better with my primary device. It's not a viable long-term solution to have to scan from my phone instead.

Scans via the HP Smart app are clear for me as well. It's the Mac desktop app that is the problem. We really need a release to either software or firmware to solve this ASAP. I'm not calling in and paying HP to fix a problem they created, so if this isn't resolved soon I will also be replacing my printer/scanner and not with another HP product. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device and it still doesn't work properly.

I can confirm this issue as well. I'm on Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.3 with HP Smart v14.2.1. I was able to install the HP Smart iPhone app and that scan worked as expected. This indicates it's an issue specific to Mac. Please fix.
