Hi @SUCKER1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP printer is having trouble with scanning and copying, resulting in a black band across half the page. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Clean the Scanner Glass

  • Turn Off the Printer: Make sure the printer is powered off.
  • Clean the Glass: Use a soft, lint-free cloth and a glass cleaner (or isopropyl alcohol) to clean the scanner glass thoroughly. Pay special attention to any areas where smudges or debris might be affecting the scan quality.
  • Clean the White Strip: Don’t forget to clean the thin strip of glass next to the scanner glass; this can also affect scan quality.

2. Check for Paper Jams

  • Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions that might be affecting the scanning or copying process.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Power off the printer, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.

4. Update Drivers

  • Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. You can check for updates on the HP Support website.

5. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Use the HP Smart app or any built-in diagnostic tools available for your printer model to check for issues.

6. Test with Different Documents

  • Try scanning or copying different documents to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if it’s a specific document or a broader issue with the printer.

7. Check Settings

  • Make sure the settings for scanning and copying are set correctly in the software you’re using. Sometimes incorrect settings can lead to unexpected results.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
