Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Photosmart 5520
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

HP Photosmart 5520 printer/scanner.

The printer was passed to me by a friend as the scanner stopped working (He now has a Cannon printer).

He connected to the printer using an Apple Mac Air.

I have Windows  - trying on a Windows 7 PC (no wireless)

Scanning Not working - removed and re-installed Drivers 3 times

Used HP print and Scan Doctor

Scan doctor reports that cannot contact the scanner over USB cable.

Can print ok so some comms over USB working.

Removed the drivers again and deleted the printer from the computer registry using Regedit. Re-installed the drivers again but no change.

What else could I do? I thought I might try to reset the printer to factory settings but there are no menu options on the screen on the front of the printer.

Does anyone know if this printer/scanner can be fixed or do I have to dispose of it?

When I start the printer it wants to carry out a printer alignment but if  press ok nothing happens.

Help would be appreciated, thanks

Are you able to copy?

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer, disconnect the power cord from the power source, and then wait 30 seconds.

  2. If you are using a power strip or multi-plug adapter, connect the cord directly to a wall outlet to make sure the printer is getting enough power.

  3. Reconnect the power cord to the printer, and then try making a copy.

    • If the issue persists, connect the printer to a different wall outlet to determine if the original outlet is causing the issue.

    • If the issue persists using a different wall outlet, partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass, it could be a hardware issue.
