My printer (an HP OfficeJet 6500 709n) does not recognize my computer for scanning but it does print from that computer. How can I fix that?

Hi @Glen5030,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 6500 709n is able to print from your computer, but does not recognize it for scanning. Here are a few steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that both your printer and computer are properly connected, either via USB or over the same network if using a network connection.

  • Verify that there are no loose cables or unstable wireless connections.

Reinstall the Printer Software:

  • Sometimes, reinstalling the printer software can resolve recognition issues.

  • First, uninstall the existing printer software from your computer.

  • Visit the HP Support page to download and install the latest drivers and full-feature software for your printer model.

  • Follow the installation instructions carefully, ensuring you have selected the option to install scanning software.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that all drivers related to scanning are up-to-date. Visit the Official HP® Support to check for the latest updates.

  • Download and install any drivers that pertain to the scanner functionality of the printer.

Check Firewall and Security Settings:

  • Sometimes, firewall or security settings can prevent the printer from accessing the computer for scanning.

  • Check if any personal firewall software is blocking the scanning service. Adjust settings or temporarily disable the firewall to check if the issue resolves.

Scan Options Configuration:

  • Verify that the scan options are properly configured on your printer and computer.

  • Open the HP printer software on your computer, access the scan settings, and ensure the correct options are selected for your scanning needs.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
