Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Just updated to Mac OS Sequoia 15.03, and my scanner no longer works!  HP Laserjet Pro MFP M127fw.  What is going on?  Is there any way to have the printer start scanning again, or do I need a new Printer?

Hi @MT122353

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw scanner isn't working after you updated to macOS 15.03 (Sequoia). It's possible that the update has caused compatibility issues with the scanner software or drivers, but don't worry — this doesn't mean you need to get a new printer! Let's go through some steps to try and get the scanner working again.

1. Check for Software and Driver Updates

  • macOS updates can sometimes cause compatibility issues with older printer drivers. The first step is to make sure you're using the latest HP drivers and software for your printer.
  • Download the latest drivers from the HP support website for your printer model (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw) and macOS version.
    • Go to the HP Support page, search for your printer, and select Mac as the operating system.
    • Install the drivers and HP Easy Start if it’s available.

2. Reinstall HP Smart or HP Scan Software

  • If you're using HP Smart or HP Scan software to scan:
    1. Uninstall the existing version from your Mac.
    2. Reinstall the latest version from the Mac App Store or the HP website.
    3. After reinstalling, open the app, select the scanner, and see if it now works.

3. Reset the Printing System on Mac

Sometimes resetting the print system can resolve issues with scanning:

  • Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click in the list of printers and select "Reset Printing System".
  • This will remove all printers and scanners, so you’ll need to add your HP printer back.
    • After resetting, add your printer again by clicking the + button and selecting your printer from the list.

4. Check the Printer's Connection

  • Ensure your printer is connected to your Mac, either through USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Test the printer by printing a document to see if the connection is active.
  • For wireless scanning, make sure both the printer and your Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network.

5. Use macOS Built-in Scan Utility

macOS has a built-in scanning utility that can sometimes bypass driver issues:

  1. Go to Applications > Preview.
  2. From the File menu, select Import from Scanner.
  3. If your scanner appears in the list, try scanning using this built-in tool to test the connection.
  • Alternatively, you can use the Image Capture app:
    • Go to Applications > Image Capture, and see if the scanner is recognized and functioning.

6. Check for macOS Security or Privacy Settings

I hope this helps.
