I am trying to scan a document using the HP app but I get an error message saying, "scanning is currently unavailable". I am tired of resetting the printer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing for me in macOS Big Sur 11.4 as well with the latest HP Smart. It was working fine for years until recently. Using an older version of Windows 10(pre May 2020 build) I can still get the scanner to work.

@ARYALSU1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
To assist you better, which device are you using to scan?
Have you tried reinstalling the HP Smart app?
Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Keep me posted.

@Naytan, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Did you install the HP Smart app from the App Store?
If yes, check for updates. A new version of the app is available.
Have you tried using the HP Easy Scan or the Apple Image Capture app to scan from your Mac?
You may download the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Kumar,
Yes, I installed it from the app store. The latest version is 3 weeks old and is about the time the issues with scanning started. The printer no longer shows up in the Image Capture app either. Says 0 devices.

Are you able to print from the Mac?
Do you have any security software installed?
Is the printer connected wirelessly? Check the connectivity between the devices. Make sure both are connected to the same network.
Check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Keep me posted.
