My fax/printer/scanner machine works perfectly except for when I try to make an outbound call using my landline handset. When I pickup my landline handset & attempt to make an outgoing call, the fax machine starts making a notification noise & the display says “incoming call”.  As soon as I turn off my landline handset & Hangup, the notification alarm stops & the display goes back to normal. If I again pickup my landline handset & place a call & it connects to whomever I’m trying to talk to, the fax machine stops it’s alarm noise & the display goes back to normal. Apparently the fax machine thinks that if I’m on my landline

(which shares the line with my fax machine) the fax machine thinks it’s an incoming call or fax, which it’s actually just me dialing out to speak to someone. I’ve gone through all the various settings on the fax setup & to no avail, it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve tried auto answer mode, fax/tel answer mode, manual mode. Etc, etc. The machine still thinks just because I’m picking up the phone to make a call, that it thinks a fax is coming in. What do I do to disable this annoying feature? My old HP colorjet never did this. It knew the difference between me dialing out on a shared line vs receiving a fax.

@jhonster, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

As this is a shared line, you will have to use a splitter.

Are you using an answering machine?

Kindly refer to this document - Setting up the Printer to Send and Receive Faxes

To troubleshoot and resolve issues with fax, refer to Resolving Fax Problems

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
