Dear community,
trying to establish connections between my Mac OS12.71 and a new Officejet 250. I'm having the following problems:
1. What do I have to do in order to print and scan via a simple USB connection? I took it for granted that this would work out of the box, however, it seems to me that it's actually not the case with the OJ250? The printer wasn’t even recognized when just connected via USB, I had to enable wireless to make this happen. The USB connection doesn’t seem to do anything at this time, although I think that it would be the standard way of connecting any printer, with WiFi options going on top - not so with this device…??
2. I’m intending to use the printer in a place where there is no WiFi server, just a WiFi hotspot created using my phone. However, in order to print from any app on my computer, it seems I have to establish WiFi Direct mode, since I can’t get the printer to connect to my phone’s WiFi hotspot. Meaning, I cannot print while I’m doing other things requiring a contiouous internet connection?!
3. When trying to do a scan using the HP smart app, it tells me „no internet connection“ when printer conneced using WiFi Direct mode. When I connect my computer to my internet server instead, it first wants me to create an account with HP (just to perform a simple scan — come on?!), but then it says my printer weren’t available! I’m feeling like I’m trapped in some SciFi satire comedy.
Would be greatful for any hints!
Thanks a lot in advance.

According to the spec the printer only uses the 2.4ghz band so your other systems need to be on 2.4 not 5 for wifi direct.
Page 51 of the users manual indicates that connecting the USB cable switches the printer out of WIFi mode
If that does not work then try resetting the printer.
Scan is done using HP Smart unless MacOS has a scan app.
The newer printer seem to require an HP account but you can set it to get logged in automatically .

Thanks for your response, however, my main problem still is that I can't seem to print or scan using the USB connection to my comouter.
Besides, when I did use the WIFi connection, the USB cable was still connected, so it didn't switch WiFi off.
The cable is working, tried it with another device.
The manual only mentions OSX when it comes to Mac - I hope there isn't any incompatibility problem at work here...?!
Thanks again.

Now that thing is behaving even funnier.
The photocopy function sometimes works, sometimes not, when I'm told I hadn't properly inserted the paper to be scanned although I'm 100% sure I've done so; the scan to USB never works; sometimes, the "not inserted properly" problem happens with this, and if it doesn't, sure enough, it'll no longer find my USB stick which it DID find before...
Sorry, HP, this is a total waste of time. I though the device would make my life easier, not harder. I'm sending it back and that's that.
