I have a HP 2140 Fax that has Memory Received showing on the display. I have tried to print it and can't. I went into my settings and tools and tried to run a self test and it says the system is busy. I'm not sure what I cna do to resolve  the issue!

Hi! @kuc2016, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you have fax issues with your printer.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes on your fax machine?

Please try the steps recommended below.

Reinitialize and check the fax machine
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the fax machine and from the wall outlet. The fax machine will reinitialize when it is plugged back in. You must disconnect the power cord, turning the fax off using the power button will not reinitialize the fax. Leave the power cord disconnected for now.
Verify that the phone cable is fully inserted into the fax machine. If your model has a removable line interface unit (LIU) that the phone line plugs into, verify that it is securely snapped in place.
If the fax is an HP Officejet R80 series model, also verify that the cable that runs from the automatic document feeder assembly to the back of the all-in-one base is connected.
Reconnect the power cord to the unit and then plug it into the wall outlet. After the fax reinitializes and is ready, try to send and receive faxes again. If the problem still exists, continue to Step two: Check the connections.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot fax issues.

I'll keep an eye out for your response.

I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Will any of this delete any of the faxes that are being held in the memory?

@kuc2016, thanks for getting back to us, I was waiting for your response.

No, it will not delete any fax which is being held in the memory.

Please try the steps recommended in my previous thread and let me know if it helps.

Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Disconnecting the power cord seems to have worked! Unfortunately, it also seems to have erased the faxes in the memory. If there's a way to retrieve them please let me know!

@kuc2016, It's been great to hear from you again.

I am glad to hear your issue got resolved.

As you mentioned disconnecting the power chord has erased the faxes in the memory.

If the Digital Fax was setup prior to this issue, you would have been saved through the software.

The printer would have to be able to print out fax log, to retrieve the faxes in memory. With the printer being in an error state, unfortunately it won't be possible.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂
