I scanned an image to a USB drive and asked that it be saved as a PDF file. The printer scanned the document, but then the only new file I found on the USB drive was a file with the name .HPIMMAGE.VFS. The file has zero bytes, so obviously the image was not saved. So, thinking that the problem may have been with the USB drive, I tried it again with a SD memory card. I got the same results on the memory care as with the USB drive. How do I get my printer to save an image (either .jpeg or .pdf) to either a USB drive or a SD memory card and have it show up there as a .jpeg or .pdf file?

Hello, @MikeEnders - Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for your continued participation on the HP Forums! I’d like to be of your assistance!
I understand you are facing issues while scanning to the USB or SD card. Let’s first update the printer firmware. Go to http://hp.care/2t1Ryoe to download and update the printer firmware.
Now, perform a power drain on the printer as suggested below:
- Remove the cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now, try scanning to a memory card or USB and check.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂
