Why does my printer copy the correct size on one side of the paper but when I try to copy the other side it comes out smaller.

As you already know, the printer can duplex print or copy manually. It cannot be automated. To isolate the issue further, I'd like to know if you're referring to making photocopies on the printer or is it about printing from your computer to the printer.

 

It'd be helpful if you could share the picture of the printed document.
