Every time I put a document on the glass of my office HP Envy 7640 printer and tell it to scan the document, it arrives in a folder on my computer in JPEG format. I need it to be in PDF format. How can I change the settings to make that happen?? There doesn't seem to be a way of doing it on the scanner, so is there something I can do from my computer to switch the format? I even tried opening the scanned document on my computer to see if I could then save it as a PDF document, but I'm not getting any other options but JPEG. I did download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader last week, so I should have the capability of opening and reading PDF documents that are sent to me. I just can't figure out how to make my scanner scan documents and have them come to my computer in PDF format, not JPEG. I'm not an IT person, so I've done all I know to do and need someone more IT minded than me to help.

@PMCB
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
There is an option where you can change the file format from JPEG to PDF from the HP Printer Assistant. To provide you with the relevant steps, I will need a few details:
- Which Operating system is installed on your computer, Windows or MAC?
- Do you use any application to scan or do you use the scan to computer option on the printer screen?
Keep me posted for further assistance.

My computer is a brand new (bought last week) HP 24 All-In-One Desktop, so it has Windows 10.
As for for your second question, when I put a document on the glass of the printer, I then have to choose SCAN and then SCAN TO COMPUTER.

Installing the HP Full-featured driver and enabling scan to computer may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:
Step 1: Clean uninstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers(if any, else skip to next step)
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.
Step 2: Click here to download HP Full-featured driver.
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 3: Enable Scan to Computer
1. Click on the printer Icon from your Desktop screen to open the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, click "Manage Scan to Computer".
3. Make sure to "Enable" Scan to Computer. Check the tab that says “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows”.
4. Click here to watch a video
