Scanning some old photo prints. After numerous successful scans the .jpg files now have faint rainbow like color bands across the image. Followed the on-line corrective instructions with no positive results.

Does this happen while copying too?

This does not occur during printing. I followed all of the HP recommended corrective measures with no positive results. I also replaced the ethernet cable and tried connecting to a different port on the router. No change.

It looks like you were interacting with @Betty0610, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.
I'm Raj1788 & I'm at your service.
Appreciate all your time and efforts.
I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/documen...
Restart the printer.
Keep me posted, how it goes!

I spent 2+ hours on "chat" with "Simon" last night to determine that I had a hardware issue. I had alread talked to a couple of people in the business who strongly suspected that after 5 minutes. A reconditioned stripped down printer is being shipped. I have to transfer the power supply and print heads from old to new and then ship the old one back. Is that the strategy - wear someone down before offering a limited "solution"? I believe it would have been easier to go out and buy a new one.
