I used virtual assistant to identify issue using scanner.  The virtual assistant then advised I would be referred to tech support for phone help.  I immediately received a call from an independent contractor who needed remote access, and identified malware as the concern.  This was not an unsolicited call, but I am still concerned that there may have been a scam

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

 

Certainly could be a scam - smells like old fish.

 

The HP Virtual Agent does not transfer you to outside contractors.

 

The remote access demand and the diagnosis of "malware" is a typical RED flag.

 

I don't know where you landed, but it was not with HP.

 

Hopefully you did not give these people your personal information or access to your computer.

If you did so, call your bank and change all your passwords. 

Consider anything on the computer to have been possibly compromised.
