Ok man, so it seems that no other option is available than replacing the OJ 8730.

Glad we tried to fix it.

I think it's a firmware issue as well. I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 with

Firmware Version WEBPDLPP1N001.1903B.00 Built Date 2019-01-17

There is no way to gracefully power down or restart the printer anymore without pulling the power plug.

Printer restart via web gui fails.

Sometime i find the printer display is stuck on full brightness and i try and press the power button to power it off at the printer power button but it will not power off. I'll wait about 5 minutes then give up and pull the power cord.

New firmware 1912B is available but it does not solve the issue.

I also asked for a replacement but the new printer they sent to me already had newer firmware.

It was not the latest firmware but ist was newer than 1726D 😞

Hi,

Today I managed to downgrade my HP 8370 to firmware version 1726D.

This solves all my problems.

The printer is shutting down even if I scanned to file before 🙂

Here is my solution:

  1. Download ojpro_8730-8740_1726D_06292017.rfu from ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/pfirmware
  2. Rename ojpro_8730-8740_1726D_06292017.rfu to ojpro_8730-8740_1726D_06292017.prn
  3. Save ojpro_8730-8740_1726D_06292017.prn to an USB stick
  4. Put USB Stick into the printer and choose print document from USB

Instead of using this procedure it should also be possible to do use copy in CMD but this did not work for me:

copy /b ojpro_8730-8740_1726D_06292017.rfu \\<computer name>\<printer name>

I suggest to disable automatic firmware update to keep this version.

Good news.

Anyways, at last it seems that new firmware update has fixed the bug. It looks like we did a very good job at debugging the device 🙂
