SCANNER WONT RECOGNIZE DOCUMENT FEEDER

i have difficulty getting the scanner to recognize when I have loaded a document into the document feeder.  It will default to "scanner glass" option within the HP Smart interface and even if I change the pull down toggle for "Source" to "document feeder", it still only scans from "Scanner Glass" (generating a blank page).  In the past, sometimes I have been able to turn off my PC and/or the printer and then when they come back online things work, but this doesn't always solve the issue.  It's very frustrating.

Does anyone have this same problem and know what the fix is?

Scanner Advanced Features	Supported using HP app
Scanning Options (ADF)	Single-Sided

If the setup works "sometimes", it's possible the document is not loaded correctly into the ADF.

Document pages face up, guides snug but not too tight, top of document snug against the "intake".

The ADF might need to be cleaned.

The ADF is rated for standard paper and paper sizes -- never (for example) try to scan small bits of paper in the ADF and never use the ADF to scan photos.

Check the Scan Area in the app or software (HP Smart or HP Scan)

For example, set the Scan Area to "Letter" or "Entire Scan Area"

The maximum Resolution for document / ADF scans is 300 DPI.

The glass can scan at a higher resolution when Presets are set to Photo

If you have the full driver printer software installed,

Use HP Scan - set up the job as wanted and scan

Hint - 

Source = Document feeder if loaded

Page Sizes = Detect Content on Page
