When I scan I can see it scanned correctly in the preview window but when I save the file as a PDF the result is blank. This just happened recently...I've had this unit for years now. But if I print to a PDF from the preview window the resulting file is fine.

I have a 6830 printer and recently starting having the same problem. I scan a document, it shows correctly in Preview but when I save the file as a .pdf, the file is always blank. Don't what is causing this but as suggested below, when sending the file to a folder, I check the box "long term preservation PDF/A" and now it saves the file correctly. I am using a new Mac desktop.

Interesting that this is happening just recently.
I was scanning from the controls of my HP OfficeJet to my Mac Desktop nine days ago. The next day it did not work.
Glad I found this thread!
Now I need to access the printer from my computer to scan. And, yes, I needed to click on "long term preservation PDF/A" as I am saving the document for it to keep the scan.
Wonder if this is an HP program update issue?

Most likely a conflict with a recent IOS update and HP is probably not going to modify software for a printer that is no longer made. Here is a work-around; use Image Capture, a scanning app that comes with Macs and works with this printer.
