Hi @hugjh
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand that you are unable to open PDF files created from scans on your HP LaserJet M234sdw, and the PDFs appear corrupted. Below are detailed troubleshooting steps to isolate whether the issue is caused by the scanner settings, HP software, the PDF viewer, or the save location.
Verify the PDF File Size
- Open the folder where the scanned PDF is saved.
- Right-click the PDF and select Properties.
- Check the Size:
- If the file size is 0 KB, the scan was not saved correctly.
- If the file size is several KB or MB, continue with the next steps.
Try Opening the PDF with Another Application
- Right-click the PDF.
- Select Open With.
- Try: Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Microsoft Edge
- Google Chrome
- If the PDF opens in another application, the issue is with the default PDF viewer.
Save a New Scan as an Image
- Open HP APP https://www.hp.com/us-en/hp-app/overview.html
- Select Scan.
- Scan the document and save it as:
- JPG or PNG instead of PDF.
- Open the image.
- If the image opens correctly, the scanner is working and the issue is related to PDF creation.
Update Printer Firmware
- Open HP APP.
- Click the printer icon.
- Select Advanced Settings > Printer Updates.
- Install any available firmware updates.
Take care and have an amazing day!
