When scanning or copying a document, 3/4 of the page is blacked out (vertical lines). This will happen even if it's not connected to the PC.

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Does that Scanner bulb light up?
Does the scanner bar move when you open the lid & press the copy button?
What happens when you try to make a blank copy from the printer?
Let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
Please respond to this post with the details so that I can provide you with accurate steps which should help you resolve this issue.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
Thank you 🙂

Hello,
Scanner bulb is lit; scanner bar moves; Here is what I get when I do a copy of nothing:
Performed the following:
Printer on
unplugged power from back of printer
not connected via USB to PC
unplugged power from wall outlet
Left unplugged for 5 mins.
Pressed & held power button for 30 seconds
plugged power cord back into wall outlet
plugged power cord back into printer
Printer powered up and finished warm up period
Made copy
Outcome: - No change
Thank you. I would guess it would be more of a printer issue and something internal needs to be fixed or printer replaced at this point?

This looks like a possible hardware failure with the printer.
In this scenario, I would personally suggest you contact our HP support team for further assistance.

Take care and have a great day!
