Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I've had this printer since 2014ish, and I've never had an issue with scanning (though I don't scan often). So today, I attempted to scan a document and I received (part of a message) saying "make sure computer software has been installed." First, I attempted to download the driver and It wouldn't allow me to do that. Then I went through the troubleshooting prompts on HP, and that didn't help. Now here I am trying to figure out for the life of me why this isn't working. NOW, one possible cause it could be related to is that I had an HP printer at my work which started giving me issues when I received messages about malware will damage my computer. I deleted the drivers and any related HP product to my printer. I might have deleted an important component that is preventing me to scan?? I apologize if this post has been duplicated.

P.S: I was successfully able to scan via the HP Smart app, though I still would like to utilize my printer scan.

@Shawnie47, Welcome to HP Support Community!

These errors occur when Apple's AirScan driver is active instead of the HP scan driver when the Scan button is pressed on the printer. To resolve this problem, enable Scan to computer from the HP Utility.

Link to download the printer software is here- https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL43722/al-106099-3/Deskjet-3510-series_v12.23.0.dmg

  1. Turn the printer off, and then on.

  2. On the Mac, open Finder , click Go in the top menu bar and then click Applications.

  3. Double-click the HP folder, and then double-click HP Utility.

    NOTE:

If you cannot find HP Utility, try scanning with another app or method, such as HP Easy Scan or Scan to Email.

  4. Click All Settings, click Scan to Computer, and then select the box next to Enable Scan to Computer.

Enable scan to computer in HP Utility

  5. On the printer control panel, navigate to the scan menu or icon, and then select your computer name.

  6. Start a scan job.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
