As of today, my printer HP Envy 5532 is no longer accepting a scan command (printing works without any problems). My laptop MacBook Air 15''''s on the MacOS Sequoia 15.4.1 operating system
I carried out all the proposed standard procedures (reset, shutdown of router, laptop and printer, printer on the factory setting and raised up again). Everything was unsuccessful. Whenever I send a scan command, the information "Failed to Open a Connection to the Device (-21345)" appears.
Who can help?

Hi @LingSiTao,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with scanning on your HP ENVY 5532, especially after completing all the standard troubleshooting steps.
The error message “Failed to Open a Connection to the Device (-21345)” is typically related to a communication issue between your Mac and the printer, often specific to scanning over a network.
Please try the following steps to resolve this:
1. Check Scanner Communication Permissions (macos Sequoia 15.4.1):
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders.
- Make sure the HP scanning app (or any third-party scanning software you're using) has access to the scanner.
- Also, check under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and Automation, and ensure scanning tools are allowed.
2. Use HP Smart for Mac (if not already installed):
While you’ve been using standard methods, the HP Smart app offers the best compatibility with macOS updates.
- Download or update it from the Mac App Store.
- Re-add your printer in the app, and try scanning through it.
3. Reset the Printing System (macOS):
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control + click) in the printers list and select “Reset printing system...”.
- Re-add your HP ENVY 5532 and then test the scan again.
4. Try USB Scanning (If on Wi-Fi):
If you're using a Wi-Fi connection, try connecting the printer via USB and see if scanning works. This can help determine if the issue is network-related.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
