HP Envy 4524
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi

I am having trouble scanning documents on my HP Envy 4524 printer+scanner.

Bith preview and final scanned image comes out black with few green/pink stripes on it. The same thing happens if I take a copy. The printer works fine.

I tried to unplug the printer, restarted the computer and re-plugged the printer but issue still persists, Used other HP online tools like scan doctor, virual assistant etc but they were of no use.

I have transported the printer (in a box in a car) to a different hiouse and the problem started since. The scanner worked fine before that.

Is there a way to find out what may have gone wrong with the scanner and how to fix it? Also, does anyone know if there is a shipping lock on this device?

Thank you

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

It's a pleasure assisting you in finding answers to your technical queries.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/model/8900983/do...

Restart the printer.

Vertical or horizontal lines or color bands are typically caused by fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on scanner parts, cartridge issues, or by power or calibration issues with the scanner mechanism. Clean the scanning areas and then reset the printer to resolve the issue.

Clean the scanner

Fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on the scanner glass, under the scanner lid, or in the document feed slot can cause lines and color bands. Clean these parts with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

Read one of the following sections for steps to clean these components, depending on your printer type.

Printer with flatbed scanner glass and lid

Printer with a document scan feeder

Clean the scanner glass and underside of the scanner lid with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

  1. Turn the printer off, disconnect the power cord, and then lift the scanner lid.

  2. Spray a soft, lint-free cloth with glass cleaner, then wipe the scanner glass, glass strip (if present), the white backing under the scanner lid, and the white strip under the lid (if present) until clean, dry, and streak-free.

       CAUTION:

To protect the interior printer parts, do not spray the cleaner directly on the glass or on the underside of the lid.

    1. White scanner lid backing

    2. White ADF scanner lid strip (if present)

    3. Glass ADF scanner strip (if present)

    4. Main scanner glass

  3. Reconnect the power cord, turn on the printer, and then close the scanner lid completely.

  4. Load the original document or photo, and then start a copy job.

Reset the printer and check the power source

Reset the printer to clear certain error states by calibrating the copier mechanism, and then check the power source to confirm the printer is getting enough power to operate the copier.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  3. Disconnect the power cord from the power source, and then wait 60 seconds.

  4. If you previously connected the power cord to a power strip or multi-plug outlet adapter, reconnect the cord directly to a wall outlet to ensure the printer is getting enough power.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn on the printer.

  6. If you have an HP DeskJet 3700 series printer, calibrate the scanner after resetting the printer.

  7. Load the original document or photo, and then start a copy job.

    • If the issue persists, connect the printer power cord to a different wall outlet to determine if the original outlet is causing the issue.
