When using HP Scan, the scan works properly however when I try to save the program crashes.  It finishes scanning brings up the explorer screen to name and save and when I click save it closes.  I have tried to change the location folder, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, I have tried everything I can think of.

Well,  that's not how it should work.

If you know...

Are you using the HP Scan that is part of the installed full solution / full driver printer software?

OR

and there might not be a difference in the visual setup of the software --

Did you install and are you using the "HP Universal Scan Software".

 

Both are essentially the same software though the second, HP Universal Scan Software, can be installed standalone and might contain slight differences.

 

Does it matter?

Likely not -- I am attempting to gather information about possible underlying causes or differences.

 

I cannot see where you told us the type of content -- PDF (document) or Photo / Image.

That detail might be important, though just as likely not.

If you are willing to test ---

 

Can you Scan using a different application?

 

For example,

Try the built-in Windows Scan app -- for now, it is not important that you scan a large document, only whether the mechanism works.  Look for Windows Scan in your "Start" (Window pane) menu.

Can you scan using the HP Smart - Windows - application?

 

Again, the amount of content scanned is not important, only whether the content can be saved.

If you care to do so...

Can you scan and save using HP Smart - Windows - using a Smart Shortcut?

There is a difference here --

Shortcuts might not be set up (yet)

AND

Shortcut saves need a Cloud Account (for example, One Drive).

 

  • Create a Shortcut for "Save"
  • Scan your content -
  • Instead of clicking "Save" as your "next action",
  • Click Shortcuts 
  • Select your created Shortcut
  • Continue / Watch the results
