I can’t work out how to scan to my iPad. I’ve downloaded the smart app and the printer is connected and will print from the iPad. Any suggestions how to scan to the iPad please?

Hi @SazHigs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Since your HP OfficeJet 5230 is connected and printing from your iPad using the HP Smart app, scanning is totally possible — it’s just a matter of a few taps.

Here’s how to scan to your iPad using the HP Smart app:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your iPad.
  2. Tap on the “Printer Scan” or “Scan” tile (if you don’t see this tile, scroll down or tap “Customize” to add it).
  3. Place your document on the scanner glass or in the ADF (document feeder) of the OfficeJet 5230.
  4. Choose your scan settings (e.g., color, resolution, scan area).
  5. Tap the Scan button.
  6. Once the scan completes, you can:
    • Preview the scanned image.
    • Save to Files, Photos, or Email.
    • Or tap Share (box with upward arrow) to send it to other apps.
  • If you don’t see the “Scan” tile:
    • Make sure the app is fully updated (check the App Store).
    • Reconnect to your printer by going to App Settings > Printers > Add or Manage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
