I am able to scan from my printer using the HP Smart App. However, when I press "scan" on my printer/scanner, it prompts me to select another app to use (it gives me 5 or 6 choices), and when I choose the first one, it will only print from the glasstop and not provide an option to print one page (or multiple pages) from the document feeder. I used to be able to just press scan on my printer/scanner and whether I had a document on the glasstop or in the document feeder, after I selected the computer listed, it would just automatically scan the document directly into my document center on my computer without me having to select any special application to open. Are you able to tell me how to set it up like this again, or will I always have to open the HP Smart App to scan going forward?

Hi,
Would suggest not to try the reset steps as any "mistep" may render the printer not usable.
Here's the link to download the HP FULL software:
Follw the steps in the videos to enable "Scan to Computer" after the software is installed.
Hope that helps!

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Support Community. Which printer model is that?
In order to use Scan to Computer, the HP FULL software needs to be downloaded and installed & Scan to Computer "Activated" before it can be used. Not all HP OfficeJet Pro printers have this feature.

Thanks so much for this response. I was still not able to figure it out, but looking at the videos you sent to me, I feel like I am only a step or so away. I thought my computer was at 32-bit, but it's a 64-bit. I have an HP Spectre. My printer is an HP officejet pro 6978. And my printer does have the ability to "scan to computer". It has done so for a few years. I have had my computer since 2015 and this particular HP printer since 2018 or 2019. When I originally installed it, it scanned directly from either the glasstop and/or the feeder directly to the documents on my computer when I pressed "scan" on the printer touch panel. My computer was running really slow, so I took it to the store for them to do some type of reset on it. I think that may have been when the settings changed because now I am not able to scan directly from the printer. I have to use an app. I did find some different settings for the scanner, but I don't know what to click on to enable it to scan to the computer. There are too many places for these settings on my computer and I am afraid that I will accidentally uninstall everything - ugh! I am not able to call HP to get assistance because the printer is not under warranty...

Would you recommend that I just try to reset the printer using the info presented in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-r-0mcJO1Y. I don't know if this would correct the scan to computer feature??

Thank you. I clicked on the link to do the full installation. It looked like it was going okay, but then it stopped and a blank screen with nothing on it is there now. It's not doing anything but when I click on the "x" to try and close the screen out, I get this message:
I am not sure what I should do now. When I click on "continue" it just does nothing. Should I just close it out and restart the computer, or close it out and try to re-install again?

HI,
Would suggest to uninstall any drivers and try all over again.
Here's an example on how to uninstall the drivers from Windows 10.

After that, reetry the FULL software installation.
Hope that helps!
