Hello!

I set up a new HP OfficeJet pro 7730. I do have HP Smart on the computer and printing works well. But scan says "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled" and "HP Smart cannot scan from this computer".

However, scan function on this computer and HP Smart works well with other HP MFD devices.

How to enable scan function in this case?

Please provide the below information to assist you with an accurate resolution.

  • How is the printer connected? Wired or Wireless?
  • Are you able to make a copy?
  • Have you tried scanning from this printer from a different device? Does it work?
    • Please install the HP Smart app on a different device like a PC or a mobile phone and check if you can scan from the other device. (HP Smart is available for Windows, MAC, iOS, and Android)

Let's try uninstalling and re-installing the HP Smart App.

  • Press the Windows key and search for "HP Smart"
  • Right click on the app and select "Uninstall"
  • Reboot the PC
  • Install the HP Smart app from Microsoft Store and try scanning again

If the issue persists, install the full feature printer software from this link and try scanning from the desktop app to check if you can scan from the PC.
