We purchased this all in one printer so that we would not have a printer & a GREAT Cannon scanner. The ONE requirement I said I wanted was to scan multiple images (photos) at one time and have the scanner detect separate images. Now I am NOT happy with our brand new purchase.
This question was posted back in April with and answer that DID NOT work for the individual.
I want a scanner that works and saves separate jpgs.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to scan multiple images at once and save all of them separately.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
You can scan multiple images at once. You will get an option to select if you want to combine all the photos or save it individually.
If you want the scanned images as a single file, make sure you select the save all items to a single file check box.
Refer to the below article for more information.
I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

Hello - no, the proposed solution does NOT work. The HP Smart application allows me to click on "Detect Edges" but that does not distinguish separate images. The work around I found is to open up my Mac's system preferences selecting Printers & Scanners and then selecting the printer and scanning from there. I can select detect separate images here, and that works.

Thank you for the update.
I think it is a software limitation.
If any other questions arise, please feel free to write back to me.
Cheers!
