my HP3301 MFP is set to scan to Network Folder, it works fine most of the time and then there are times when you load the feeder to scan, and the green Scan button will not highlight and scanner will need to be rebooted, will switching to SMBv3 fix this issue? the settings are correct, we have a different scanner (Canon) with the exact same settings for the Network file oath and Domain and that one we have no issues with at all. not sure why the HP will almost Timeout

I can see how frustrating it must be to have an otherwise reliable scanner intermittently not respond, especially when other devices on the same setup are working smoothly.

 

A few quick questions to help narrow down the issue:

  1. Has anything in your network environment, like firewall settings or firmware updates, changed recently?
  2. Are there specific times of day or certain file sizes that seem to trigger the problem?
  3. Does the HP 3301 MFP display any error codes when this issue occurs?

 

Here are some steps to help troubleshoot:

 

Check SMB Version Compatibility:

  • Switching to SMBv3 can help, as it offers better security and reliability. Verify that your server and network folder path support SMBv3, and change the settings on the HP 3301 MFP to connect using SMBv3 if possible.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that the HP 3301 MFP’s firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause network stability issues. Visit HP’s support site or use the HP Smart app to check for updates.

Adjust Network Timeout Settings:

  • In the HP 3301 MFP’s settings, look for any options related to network timeout or scan delay settings. Increasing the timeout can sometimes prevent the scanner from requiring a reboot when it’s waiting to connect to the network.

Clear Network Cache on the MFP:

  • Restart the network settings on the HP 3301 MFP. This can clear any network cache or temporary settings that may be causing connectivity issues. This can often be done in the MFP’s network or settings menu.

Network Stability Check:

  • If the issue happens during high network usage, test the scanner on a less congested network or try setting a static IP for the HP 3301 MFP. This can improve connectivity reliability by reducing IP conflicts or delays in DHCP responses.
