Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

if the network folder is on your PC, the username and password is your windows login credentials.

Check out this resource.

Hope that helps!

Good morning Greenturtle,

Thank you for your response - I didn't know that I had a Microsoft account, but apparently it was

set-up automatically when I set-up my e-mail.

I did go to Microsoft and set-up and CHECKED my account and password.

Went back to my Officejet Pro 8720 set-up for the "Scan to Network Folder"

EXACTLY the same thing happened as before - "Incorrect User Name or Password"

Question - if the User name is my Microsoft account, WHY did the set-up automatically

insert the computer name and folder as the User name?

HI,

Spoiler

WHY did the set-up automatically

insert the computer name and folder as the User name?

You're shairing the network folder for the printer to scan and save to, that's why it inserted the computer name and folder as the username.

In order to finish setup, use the  password that you login for your computer.

Thanks.

Good afternoon Greenturtle,

My computer (Z200) does not require a pass word. I did add a Password to the one feature in th BIOS

where chages to the setting can be made. I have used this password when the computer name is

shown - -same result.

I am a red head, supposedly with a short temper. I have been working this for over a month

(off and on) with no success. I have not been tempted to take a hammer to the printer - -

I am, however, determined to make this work.

The problem is SOLVED !!

The heart of the problem was, of course, authentication.

Since every computer I ever used starting working as soon as the software was

loaded, I never knew the computer had a 'name' and could use a password. Through

Control Panel, (User Accounts) I found the computer name and added a password.

With that information setting up "Scan to Network Folder" was unbelievably quick

and easy. The advice the Forum has given me is appreciated, but I had never

asked the right question.
