HP 8728 All in one
Other

Hi folks,

I have been a loyal customer of HP for many years and the last few All-in-printers have been great (other than the "paper jam error" which results in buying a new printer every so often)

I picked up my new 8728 yesterday as it has all the features of my previous printer the HP 8620 All-in-one.

On the old 8620 i was able to Scan to Network straight to a folder on my Synology NAS drive (both the printer and the Synology box are on the same network), however on the new 8728, the path i am entering for the new Synology box/folder "cannot be reached"

the path hasnt changed for the fodler, the Synology box address hasnt changed... in fact the only thing that has changed is the printer but i can no longer Scan to Network

The address i am entering into the HP setup page is

\\DiskStation\Scanned Docs

Any help to resolve this and restore my faith in HP would be appreciated.

Thanks

Here is how I did it.

Set up an account for the scanner and set permissions to the folder

Used that as a username: NAS_name\account_name

And the password associated with that user.

That will allow the scanner to link into the NAS and transfer the files.

I had similar troubles to connect my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 to my Synology NAS DS 213J.

I spent one morning to get finally the solution.

I followed mainly these steps:

1) Create an account on Synology NAS to be used by printer/scanner;

2) Create a shared folder on Synology NAS to be used as Network folder to store scanned documents;

3) Activate SMB1 protocol in Control Panel->File Services->SMB Advanced Settings.

Last step was for me the key to be able to access shared folder from my printer.

Probably, this model of printer does not support SMB2 or greater versions of server message block protocol.

Don't forget to give the Read/Write rights to new account for shared folder.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the tip. I have a HP8600 and it didn't worked anymore when I changed my SMB setting to 2 on my Synology D214. After setting it back to 214 it works again.

Goodmorning.

I have a pro 8600. In the HP program I can scan a document and save it on my Synology in \\diskstation\documents\2019\scans. Until some time ago on the printer I could choose the option: Scan to Network. But since a while the printer says: cannot connect.

When I want to install it in the HP program, I have to put in my Windows login. But when I do, it says: cannot connect to the server. When I use login of Synology, same problem. So manually it works, automaticly it cannot connect. What do I do wrong and which login I have to use.

Thanks in advance
