HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

When I am trying to Scan from the Officejet pro 7740 Printer to the PC, I can find the name of my PC in the screen of the printer.

Then I activate the scan process and on the screen of my laptop appears the following message " Impossible to find HP Officejet Pro 7740", and the scan doesn't start

Hi @ertyqw,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you're experiencing with scanning from your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 to your PC could be caused by several factors, such as communication issues between the printer and your computer or incorrect software configurations. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check the Network Connection

  • Ensure both devices are on the same network: Verify that your PC and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If you're using an Ethernet connection for the printer, make sure it's functioning properly.
  • Verify connectivity: Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to confirm its IP address. Compare this with your PC's network settings to ensure they're on the same subnet.

2. Re-enable Scan to Computer

  • Open the HP Smart App or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
  • Go to the Scan section.
  • Look for Manage Scan to Computer or a similar option, and ensure it’s enabled.

3. Restart HP Services

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Look for the following services:
    • HP Network Devices Support
    • HP Print Scan Doctor Service (if available)
  • Right-click each and select Restart. If they are not running, start them.

4. Update Printer Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support Website and download the latest drivers and firmware for the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.
  • Install the software and reboot your computer.

5. Check Firewall Settings

  • Ensure your firewall isn’t blocking the connection. Add exceptions for the printer software.
  • You may also temporarily disable the firewall to test if it resolves the issue.

6. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's website.
  • Follow the tool's instructions to detect and fix issues with scanning.

7. Test Scanning Using Software

  • Open the HP Smart App or Windows Scan App.
  • Select your printer and attempt to scan from your computer to verify the connection.

8. Set Up a Static IP Address for the Printer

  • Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address in a web browser.
  • Navigate to the Network Settings and assign a static IP.
  • Reconfigure the printer software on your computer with the new IP address.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
