Hello,

I have tried searching for an answer to this question but couldn't find a direct match.

When I perform a 'scan to computer', the Windows Fax & Scan app appears; documents used to appear as a pdf in the 'Documents' folder of the PC.  How might I get the scanner / PC to go back to pdfs in Documents and stop the Fax & Scan app being used?

Thank you,

Hugh

How are you starting the "scan to computer" request?

That is, which software are you using (on the computer) or are you invoking the request from the printer control panel?

OR

Windows Fax and Scan is one of those programs / software that can be started directly.

For example,

Start (Windows key) > All Apps > scroll down to W > Windows Accessories > Windows Fax and Scan

When the program opens, select "New Scan"

Change which profile used

and / or

change file type

Check / adjust other settings and start the scan

OR

Possible location of the setup that opens Windows Fax and Scan

If you are using software on the computer, one possible call to Windows Fax and Scan is within the printer > Scan Properties.  Scan Properties may -- or may not -- be part of your setup.  There are always differences between printers and the software that governs print and scan functions.

Example

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on printer > Scan Properties > tab Events

Select an event:  Scan

Actions

Possible Selections include

➡️  Start this program

Drop down menu includes programs and software - entries differ depending on what you have installed on the computer.

For example, possible entries might include

  • Foxit Reader
  • NAPS2
  • Readiris
  • Windows Fax and Scan Application
  • Scan

➡️  Prompt for which program to run (NOTE:  Selecting this option precludes starting a specific selected program)

➡️  Take no action

Click OK to save any changes
