If I press the scan button on the printer it says: Setup required and then directs me to the 123.hp.com webpage. Dowloaded the software (App) as directed. When you click on the scan icon in the app, the scanner works. This mean every time having to go into the App. Not the purpose of the Scan to computer button. Can anyone please assist on how to get this function to work. This is not my first HP printer but it seems to be a very common HP issue that takes a lot of research and headaches to fix!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
1.) On your Mac, click Finder, click Applications, click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, then double-click HP Utility. (If HP Utility is not available, download and install the install the printer essential software from here)
2.) Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer, then make sure the Enable Scan to Computer check box is selected.
3.) Try 'scan to the computer' from the printer.

Thanks for the help, but it did not work. The HP utility does not see the printer, The IP address is not accepted and the screenshots you show is for an older iOS version.
So the problem is not resolved. It seems from other searches I did that this function is not supported on the iMac. Why?

Are you able to print and scan from the Mac to check the connectivity? Scan to computer is not available for Mac OS for this model printer, scanning can be done form the HP Smart or HP Easy Scan app on your Mac, Scan to Computer for the printer is only supported on Windows PCs.
