Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP ENVY 7640
macOS 10.15 Catalina

It used to be possible to start a scan on my printer; it would then scan and automatically save the document on my Macbook. However, after a clean instal of my Macbook and HP changing the software, it is no longer possible to do this.

When wanting to start a scan on my printer, it says: ‘To scan to a computer, make sure that the scanning software has been installed and configured on your computer. Mac OS X: The HP recommended software is required for this feature. If installed, open HP Utility. Under ‘Scan Settings’, click ‘Scan to Computer’ and ensure that ‘Enable Scan to Computer’ is selected.

However, HP Utility is no longer available and has been replaced by ‘HP Smart’. I searched for the possibility to ‘Enable Scan to Computer’, but couldn’t find the original setting. The thing that I did find, is webscan (Settings - Advanced Settings - Scan - Scan to Computer), even though the name of the menu says ‘Scan to Computer’, which is misleading. It is enabled, but doesn’t do the trick. Makes sense, because I don’t want to use webscan, I want to scan from my printer to my computer.

You could assume that since my printer is still mentioning HP Utility, there would be a firmware update.

But no, my firmware update from 2018-07-23 (!!) is still very much up to date according to HP.

Long story short: I want to be able to scan to my computer again, without touching my Macbook.

Any ideas how to make this possible again? Many thanks in advance.

Solved by hacking my way around the HP website and finding an older version of the software. Hurray! 🙂

I just recently bought the HP Smart Tank Plus 651 and wish to do the same thing, push "scan" on my scanner/printer and it open up a scanning program on my computer.  Mine says I need to go to the software to manage this feature, but I can't find the feature on the HP Smart app.
