Hi,  I‘m receiving an error on my HP printer while using scan to email.  It said" Username or password is incorrect. Ensure both user account and password are valid." I used to turn off “less secure apps” on my google account so I could scan to email (my google email) which was a work-around that allowed me to scan to email without receiving the above error message. Then I would turn off “ less secure apps” on my google account after scanning to email. Google removed that option of turning off “less secure apps “ so now I’m unable to scan to email (my google email) even if I enter the correct username and password because it seems to be a security issue. Does anyone know a work-around so I can still scan to email on my HP printer?
Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.  Apologies for jumping in here.

Here's a step by step procedure (Example) on how to setup Scan to Email (G M A I L) with the Less Secure Apps feature removed from Googke.

It looks like it cut off part of my message and question when I view my post so I’m not sure if you can see my entire post. Here it is continued:

Hi @southpaw07,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

If the printer is on the network, use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to manage and configure your printer.

Note the requirement to have your email address connected to an installed mail program on the computer.

For example:  Windows Mail is an installed mail program, web-based mail (like you use on your browser) is NOT an installed mail program.  Thunderbird is an installed mail program that uses imap or pop3 to control / provide email service.

Some email services work better than others.  In the following example, the actual setup was made to a **bleep** address (the real name of that email address is obscured / changed for the purpose of providing the public example).

The **bleep** settings (as shown in the examples below) within the actual **bleep** setup has the "two-step verification" setting switch off.  The "allow insecure" apps setting is switch ON.  From what I have read, setting an "App" password may also work.  This, too, is set within the **bleep** mail options (logged into your **bleep** account) and not within the EWS / Scan to Email setup.

If you have Outlook installed on your computer, and if Outlook is the default mail service, it is likely necessary that you have Outlook running at the time you run the Scan to Email feature on the printer software.  Outlook is fussy about setups - connecting a **bleep** address to Outlook seems to work, connecting a Yahoo address to Outlook (in my personal experience) is fraught with trouble (does not work and tends to hang).  ??  Personally, I lost interest in the issue with stubborn Yahoo mail; I use an address that I have with **bleep**.

Examples:

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Scan to Email > Scan to Email Setup
