Hello,

I am having issues with the scan to mail feature. When configuring the SMTP and sending a test mail (or actually trying to scan to mail) I keep getting the following error:

SMTP protocol error.

Copying and printing through IP works.

The configuration is as follows:

Server : [Personal Information Removed]

Enabled SMTP SSL/TLS encryption

Tried all 3 ports (587, 25 & 465)

Its on a google workspace domain where i tried enabling relay smtp and using [Personal Information Removed] server.

Thanks in advance!

The setup is dissimilar in some ways from the SMTP setup on an OfficeJet Pro printer.

That said, if the issue is due to your email security, the following will likely help:

Scan to Email does not support Two-Step Verification unless you set / use an Apps Password.

The other option is to set the email account security to "Less Secure".  Email providers (for example G-mail) dislike this option but - at this writing - do tolerate its use.

General Example - Embedded Web Server (EWS) Scan to Email (Digital Send / SMTP supported)

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Scan to Email >  Settings / Scan to Email Setup

Hi @YonasISF ,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.  Apologies for jumping in.

@Dragon-Fur  is right wrt Scan to Email does not support Two-Step Verification unless you set / use an Apps Password.

These are some example of "How to setup Scan to Email" for **bleep**, Yahoo and Outlook.  Some company block these usage so would defer to IT admins if that's the case for your company.

(actually said you can use 2 step verification if Apps password is generated and used)

Hope that gives you some idea on how to setup and use "Scan to Email" .

Cheers.

Excellent.

You are welcome.

The setup should "stick" now that the Apps Password is enabled / set.

Switching "this direction" is less likely to break than using the "Less Secure" method.

That said, if you have trouble later, add this to your check list.
