Thank you for your help.  I have tried to complete the case number creation but at the end of the process it unhelpfully gives a message stating Your Case Number: Unavailable.

I will try on Monday starting from scratch.  At least I do have the telephone number.

Just by way of feedback. I contacted HP support as suggested.  The technician took control of my computer and spent nearly 40 minutes trying to solve the problem which she reproduced exactly as I had described.  After consulting colleagues she changed the scanning resolution down to the minimum of 75 dpi and the delay disappeared altogether. I have subsequently tested the various resolution settings and can confirm that as the resolution is increased then the delay for scanning to start when controlled from the printer control panel goes from virtually instant to over 90 seconds at the highest resolution.  When scanned using the HP Scan software on the computer, the start of scanning is not effected by the resolution setting.  Useful information even though I do not quite understand why this is the case. I guess that this has something to do with the scanning software capabilities built into the printer that are presumably used when scanning from there as opposed to the more powerful software when using the PC programme?

I am feeding this back now as it might help someone else in the future?  Regards, Chris

Hi ChrisJohnW,

even if you solved apparently your problem, I am confirming another approach that is working for me (your solution was still taking huge time). The solution is simply to set the IP address instead of the PC name... this makes the printer working immediately.

Hope this can help you or someone else.

Thank you for your contribution to this issue. Can you please be a bit more specific?  Where do you put the computer IP address?  I normally use the "Scan to network folder" option when scanning from the printer control panel.

Sure, sorry if I was not completely clear. First is to set the IP addresses for the clients of the printer static, so that they will not change in the future.

I am describing everything by screenshots, hope it helps more 🙂

1- open HP Assistant1- open HP Assistant

2- select "Scan to Network Folder Wizard"2- select "Scan to Network Folder Wizard"

3- type the addresses with the IP (static)3- type the addresses with the IP (static)

I know this is a very old thread, but I was having the same issue as you and I found a solution on another thread that helped me. I'm sure by now you figured it out, but I'll post the solution here just in case anyone comes across this thread with the same problem.
